The Complete Free Hockey Scoreboard for Every Game
Whether you're running a rec league, coaching a youth team, or just keeping score at a pickup game with friends, this free online hockey scoreboard gives you everything you need — without downloading an app or creating an account. Open it in any browser, and a fully functional scoreboard is ready in seconds. Your game state saves automatically to your device, so you can close the tab and pick up exactly where you left off.
Coaches, referees, and fans have used this hockey score keeper at rinks across the country as a simple, reliable alternative to physical scoreboards. It handles standard three-period ice hockey, two-period formats, four-period youth games, and everything in between. Adjust the period length in Settings to match whatever format your league uses.
Real-Time Hockey Timer with Period Management
The built-in hockey timer counts down from your chosen period length — 20-minute periods for standard ice hockey, or any custom duration you set. Tap the clock face to start and stop the timer. When a period ends, the scoreboard pauses and prompts you to advance. Overtime kicks in automatically with a five-minute sudden-death clock when the score is tied after regulation.
The timer is designed to be operated with one hand while you watch the play. Large tap targets mean you don't need to look at the screen to hit pause. Whether you need a full ice hockey scoreboard clock for a league game or a quick countdown for a shinny session, the controls stay out of your way.
Hockey Penalty Tracking and Power Play Indicators
Accurate penalty tracking is one of the hardest parts of running a hockey game manually. This scoreboard handles it automatically. Hit "+ Penalty," enter the player number, and choose the penalty type. The countdown runs in sync with the game clock — pause the clock and the penalty timer pauses too.
Supported Hockey Penalty Types
- Minor penalty — 2 minutes (ends early if the opposing team scores on the power play)
- Double minor — 4 minutes (two consecutive 2-minute segments)
- Major penalty — 5 minutes (does not end early on a goal)
- Misconduct — 10 minutes
When a team has more players in the penalty box than the other side, a PP (Power Play) badge appears on the team with the advantage and a PK (Penalty Kill) badge on the shorthanded team. This makes it easy to track multiple overlapping penalties at once — something scoreboard simulators often get wrong.
Record Who Scored — Player Attribution for Every Goal
Click the score number or the + button to instantly add a goal — no popup, no delay. Need to log who scored? Click the small ✏ +player button under the score and type the player's name or jersey number. Skip it if you're moving fast. Every goal, penalty, and timeout appears in the Game History panel with the time remaining and period, so you have a full record of how the game unfolded.
Swap Sides at Intermission in One Tap
In ice hockey, teams change ends after each period. The Swap Sides button in the control panel flips the home and away positions instantly — scores, penalty timers, and all recorded events remap to the correct side. No need to start a new game or manually adjust anything. It's one of those small details that makes a big difference when you're trying to keep up with a real game.
Upload Team Logos and Customize Colors
Open the Settings panel to give each team a custom name, abbreviation, primary color, and logo image. Logos are stored locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server. This makes the scoreboard feel like an official production display rather than a generic online tool, which is especially useful for streaming or for tournament organizers who want a branded look.
Save Your Game History and Review Past Matches
Sign in with your Google account to unlock game saving. When a match ends, click Save Game, give it a name, and it's stored in your account. Your history page shows every saved game with the final score, teams, and a full breakdown of goals and who scored them. This turns the scoreboard into a lightweight stats tracker for anyone running a regular hockey program.
Share a Live Hockey Scoreboard with Parents and Fans
Use the Share button to generate a unique link. Anyone with that link can watch the scoreboard update in real time from their own device — no setup required on their end. For streamers and content creators, there's also an OBS overlay URL. Add it as a Browser Source in OBS, and the transparent scoreboard appears directly over your footage. It's the same workflow used by amateur hockey casters and league administrators who want a polished broadcast look without expensive equipment.
Works for All Types of Hockey
While it's built with ice hockey in mind, this scoreboard adapts to any format. Roller hockey leagues typically play shorter periods — set the timer to 12 or 15 minutes. Street hockey and ball hockey games often skip formal penalties, so you can disable the penalty box display entirely in Settings. Youth leagues using a running clock can set a longer period and leave the timer running continuously. The scoreboard works equally well as a sideline tool on a tablet or as a full-screen display projected for spectators.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this hockey scoreboard really free?
Yes, completely. No subscription, no credits, no hidden tiers. Every feature — including penalty tracking, live sharing, and the OBS overlay — is free for everyone. Saving game history requires a free Google sign-in.
Do I need to install anything?
Nothing to install. Open the page in any modern browser on a phone, tablet, or laptop and you're ready to go. The scoreboard works offline after the initial page load, so a patchy rink Wi-Fi connection won't interrupt your game.
Can I use this as a hockey scoreboard simulator to practice?
Absolutely. Many coaches and referees use it as a scoreboard simulator to rehearse game situations — running the clock, cycling through penalties, and practicing power play scenarios before a real game. The Undo button lets you reverse any action instantly.
What makes this different from other hockey scoreboard makers?
Most online hockey scoreboard makers are static image generators. This is a live, interactive scoreboard with a real countdown timer, automatic power play detection, penalty synchronization, player goal attribution, and team logo support — all in one place, with no account required to start.
